Miley Cyrus vs. Radiohead

Now I'm not one to really get into celebrity gossip, but this is a subject I had to address. It was just too good to pass up.

Teen queen Miley Cyrus exposes her incredibly inflated ego and feeds enough fodder to the gossip columns to last a year. The really sad part about it all is that really, she's just a very immature girl who's been thrust into the public spotlight without any real protection or guidance. I have a real problem with the way Hollywood is taking younger and younger kids and trying to make them grow up really fast in front of the public eye, and stay normal functioning members of society. But now I'm digressing, let's get back to the real story.
Miley Cyrus apparently got her feelings hurt at the Grammy's, when her "like, rock god" Radiohead refused to do a quick meet and greet back stage before their performance. (Honestly though, could you blame them) Well, you just don't do that to princess Miley. How does she respond to this supposed "slight", well she goes into a valley girl induced tantrum on a small time radio show. I won't rehash the whole thing, but if you are interested, go to http://blog.inmusic.ca/inmusic/2009/03/thom-yorke-miley-cyrus-feud.html#more
Needless to say, the real bomb came when Miley uttered the threat, that she was, and I quote; "gonna ruin them". Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! Miley Cyrus, current edition of the Disney brats gone solo, is going to destroy Radiohead. This girl, who is only a star because of her father's one hit wonder star power, whose fan base is the fickle 5-15 year old girl crowd, is going to destroy RADIOHEAD. The same Radiohead who have been rock staples since 1993. The same band credited with recording OK Computer, voted into the top 16 greatest albums of all time. The same band who is openly credited to paving the way for many of the big bands of now, such as Coldplay, Bloc Party, Keane, Muse... just to name a few. The same band that has been credited by many music artists, along with some of the previous bands; as one of the most influential bands in rock history. They are going to be single handedly brought down by the millions upon millions of little girls who probably have never even heard rock music yet. Well clearly the best way to get someone to agree to meet you is to insult them and threaten them with certain ruin. I'm sure Radiohead is so scared of this spoiled brat that they are calling their P.R. people right now to beg her forgiveness. Ever see that poster where a house cat is approaching an eagle 3 times it's size on a fence post? It's titled "Overconfidence" and I think it's a perfect description for miss Hanna Montana. Go get em' girl, and make sure you let us all know how that turns out...

The thing is.. Radiohead didn't really snub her. Not her in particular. what they said was " we don't really do that sort of thing." Rude? not really. it was an awards ceremony alot of stuff is going on. she probably could have waited till the aferparty.. whatever. I remember standing outside in the middle of december in nothing but a hoodie. dancing from one foot to he other trying to keep warm as we waited outside the tour buss for hours trying to meet a band. they never came out. does that mean I hate the band? no. are they snubbing me and the dozens of others who waited as well? no. It is too bad that this 15( 16?)is plagued with such a sense of intitlement. it'll be tough when she gets too old for disney.. although she can live for a few lifetimes off what she's made in merchandising alone. sigh I wish her luck I'm sure Radiohead is really going to suffer for what they've done. on a bit of a side note. there's a video on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_HDt5c8VJg and holy crap is it hard to listen to her voice. but anyway if you fastforward to 6:30 she says something really interesting..

Woo Hoo! People commenting, I love it! Thanks mucrane for the comments, I appreciate your perspective. You're right about not hating a band just because they didn't meet up with you. I'm sure Radiohead's response to her was pretty standard in the industry. (Mind you, if I were them I wouldn't want to meet her either)
I think a big problem we, the general public; have is that we view the life of a rock star as easy going, partying, care free. So when they can't take time to meet with us after all the investment we put into them of buying their music, and idolizing them, we get offended. In reality, the life of a true musician is tough. These people are constantly touring, doing press confrences, recording albums, practicing, writing, flying. And somewhere in between all that they have to have a private life too. Can you really blame them if they are a little selfish when it comes to wanting to be left alone? They live their life on the road and in the public eye, they need an escape. They try to accomodate where they can, but really, cut them some slack. For anyone wanting to gain some good perspective on band life, I'd suggest checking out band blogs. I'll give you 2 good ones to start with; Coldplay's "Roadie 42" at http://www.coldplay.com/newstags.php?tag=blog and Radiohead's at http://www.radiohead.com/deadairspace/
Thanks for the response, oh and P.S. I'll blog about the George W. thing tonight. Great question!

I feel bad for the poor girl! They rip her apart for absolutely everything and its the public and media thats going to send her into rehab in a matter of 2 years tops! If i were sixteen and denied something i wanted real bad i would have had the same reaction. Just because shes immature doesnt mean we havent all done it. Give the girl a break already!

I can't give the girl a break! She's richer than me, at a younger age, so..... yeah! Just kidding, but seriously, "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" should be her motto.
